Random cleaning fairy

Don't you just love serendipity when it comes to cleaning? It's true to say that housework is not my preference / priority. Too many other fun things to do. This is why I love when the random cleaning fairy drops in.

This afternoon, I put my best foot forward and prepared one of those healthy for you, full of goodness, quick and easy meals. Tomatoes, four bean mix, garlic, onions, capsicums, herbs - you get the idea. Very tasty, quick and easy - just my style with meal preparations!

With the momentum brought on by this virtuous activity and still having a relatively usable washing up water in the sink, I sighted the second shelf of the baker's stand resplendent with my collection of spice canisters. Without thinking (it's the cleaning fairy), I proceeded to clean the entire shelf. Better still, I was even enjoying it. The magic of the cleaning fairy in action.   

Now I have a wonderfully clean second shelf, even colour coordinated.

Canisters - all colours

An exciting find - this set of blue spice canisters from 1940's. Quite unusual with their square shape. 2.25" square at the top and just under 2" square at the base. The height with lid is approx 3.25". Brand is Duperite. 

A lovely addition to my canister collection. 

Also on the same expedition, discovered these colorful dried fruit canisters. 4.25" in diameter and just over 4.5" in height with screw on lid. Brand is Eon.

Not sure I'd ever have that much lemon peel!

Spice canisters

I couldn't resist these cute spice canisters with scoops!

Interestingly the scoops are slightly different colours.

Made by Marquis Australia 1930's, they have screw top lids. They make a nice addition to my 3 other Bakelite sets.

This set probably started out as five - Cinnamon, Nutmegs, Cloves, AllSpice and Pepper. I'm missing Pepper.

Kitchenalia et al

Atop the wooden cupboard are a mixed grouping. 

Kitchen scales with weights - used for many a cake baking.

Laundry stick used to stir the washing in the copper. 

Aluminium cake tins - held many a delicious cake! Stacked set and single sets with bakelite knobs. 

Sewing machine case - machine inside.

Kewpie dolls in their own knitted outfits (includes undies!) Made by my mother-in-law. 

Kitchen canisters

There's something magical about the petite spice canisters used in 1950's.

This wonderful set of four bakelite spice canisters have the earlier screw top lid. Maker was IPLEX - Industrial Plastics, Adelaide.

Red and cream with labels - Ginger, Cinnamon, Pepper, Nutmeg.

The green and cream set of 5 spice canisters have no maker mark.

Labels are on four - Cinnamon, Ginger, Nutmeg, Cloves. The lids just sit on top.

All look great today on the kitchen shelves.
